Physical Education and Sport
“Try…and fail…but don’t fail to try.”

Our Vision For PE at Loxley Primary School
At Loxley School Physical Education (PE) and sporting provisions are at our core. A high-quality PE and sports programme are important for our pupils for several reasons.
By taking part in a wide range of sports our pupils are learning the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
We know that being active helps our pupils be ready to learn and pay better attention when they are in the classroom.
Regular physical activity is the best way to help fight against obesity. It’s our aim that by the end of the academic year every child will be doing a minimum of 60 active minutes at school.
Fundamental motor skills are developed and improved on in PE lessons, they also help to build confidence not just on the sporting pitch but in the classroom as well.
Our pupils learn important lessons around accepting responsibility not just in self-discipline but also in their development.
Our PE lessons and sports leaders initiative helps to promote a wide range of opportunities for all pupils to be competitive, be cooperate with others and work well within a team.
The understanding of being honest, being a good sportsman, and dealing with both success and defeat both on and off the pitch is learnt and improved on within our PE lessons.
Sports Leaders
Every year with the support of Links School Sports Partnership. We train over 30 Year 5 and Year 6 children up to become our sports leaders. These children then deliver a range of different sporting activities on the playground for our children to take part in during their lunch time. These activities range from ball skills to dance, gymnastics, cheer-leading and balance bikes.
With the support of our Loxley Sports Leaders with are able to ensure all children at school have an active lunch time and are achieving their 60 minuets of physical activity every day they are in school.
Beat your Best
At Loxley School we have an amazing scheme in place to help our children to be active and competitive with themselves over their lunch and break times.
Our Beat Your Best scheme was researched and developed by two of our past students. They spent time talking to children on the playground at lunch time asking what they enjoyed doing the most and what they didn’t like. They then designed a pack full of different activities with challenges for all the children to complete each day and try to beat their own scores.
This is a fantastic scheme that our children enjoy both taking part in and developing new challenges each year.
Health Week
In May we have a a full week dedicated to physical education, sports and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Within this week we change our timetable and offer a range of different healthy living opportunities for our children including talking about healthy eating, social media and the effects if it and what physical activity does to our body. We also offer a range of alternative sporting activities for our children from Zumba, football, street dance to rink hockey, fencing, boxing, balance bikes and everything between.
Our fun filled health week happens with the help and support from Links School Sports Partnership. Find out about all their amazing work at https://links-ssp.com/
We end our health week with one of our favourite days at school, our Sports Day. On this day all our children take part in a whole school warm up dance, then move on to the field events, where they represent their team trying to score as many points as possible and we end our Sports day with our track races. All our children take part in the different races including the egg and spoon, three legged race, sack races, our very own ‘Dolphin Relay’ and not forgetting the mums’ and dads’ races.
This day is a great success and always runs smoothly thank to the amazing help from our past students who now attend Bradfield Secondary School.
