Performance Data

A brief explanation of the data below

The link to the Gov.uk website below takes you to the last set of full data on Loxley Primary School’s performance. This data mainly relates to statutory assessments and test results which we report to the Department for Education such as the Key Stage 2 SATs taken in Year 6. The data set we have chosen to link to is the Gov.uk page relating to our school when it was a local authority school. This is because there is very little data on our Peak Edge Academy Gov.uk page due to there being no reportable pupil performance data for the 2019-20 school year because of the national lockdown. However on the page, you will find a link to the current page for our school. As well as test and assessment data on this page you will also find information on attendance and financial information about our school.

Ambition for Pupils

There are many different opinions about testing and assessment in primary schools but, regardless of how assessment is done, we want our children to make the best progress and highest attainment possible in the key subjects of reading, writing and mathematics to give them the best chance in life. This is part of our ethos in “Aiming High Together” and we hope to achieve this through an engaging curriculum and a school climate where children feel confident and happy. Cohorts (year groups) of children at Loxley almost always have higher attainment than nationally in reading, writing and maths in assessments made just before they leave our school in Year 6. Progress from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 is normally in-line with the national average or above the national average. Attainment at the end of early years (the Reception year) is nearly always higher than that nationally and attainment at the end of key stage 1 is normally in-line or higher than the national average.

What does the Gov.uk performance data include?

It includes:

A comparison of progress by Loxley pupils with pupils nationally. The progress is measured from attainment at the end of Key Stage 1 (Y2) to attainment at the end of Key Stage 2 (Y6) in reading, writing and mathematics.

A score of 0 means that a school’s pupils have progressed at the same rate as the national average progress for pupils across England. A negative (minus) number means the school’s performance is worse than average and a number above 0 means that the school’s performance is better than the national average. The Gov.uk website broadly bands schools into “below average”, “average” or “above average” groups depending on the statistical confidence they have in the score being better or worse than average. The statistical confidence relates to the number of pupils taking the test in a school and how far above or below national average progress the school’s data is.

The percentage of pupils achieving the expected standard and the higher standard (sometimes referred to as greater depth) in reading, writing and mathematics compared to the average nationally and in Sheffield. These percentage figures only include pupils who achieved either the expected or higher standard in all three subjects - English, Writing and Mathematics.

The average KS2 test/teacher assessment score achieved by Loxley pupils compared to those locally (in Sheffield) and nationally. When children complete their test papers, the mark on their test equates to a standardised score. (The writing score is based on a teacher assessment.) The average of Loxley children’s scores in reading, writing and mathematics (separately for each subject this time) is compared to the average in Sheffield and nationally for each subject.

There are further options to find out details about how different groups of children performed at the the end of Year 6 in the SAT assessments and tests.
