We encourage children to write from the line as soon as they start writing and aim for most children to be using a cursive script by the end of Year 1 and for this to be fluent by the end of Year 2. It is important that children get regular practice and familiarity with writing and its conventions. Re-telling of simple stories helps children begin their journey into extended writing however it is important that children can make choices in their own writing too. It is also important that children learn to write in sentences; knowing what sentences are and how to punctuate them correctly. From this point, children can learn to write in a range of sentence structures which can add interest and precision to their writing, supported by their reading and punctuation and grammar learning. Throughout the age range, we give children stimulating and relevant reasons to write and try to build children’s enthusiasm and resilience when writing. As soon as children are able, we enable them to check, self-edit and peer review their work. Our annual parents’ phonic and reading workshop is extremely well attended and gives staff the opportunity to demonstrate how phonics and reading is taught in school. To practise the phonics taught in school, pupils take home a recently purchased phonic reading book; this is in addition to reading books that develop other aspects of reading. Primary school it’s our intention that all children receive a high- quality PE lessons that not only helps them to perform in a range of physical activities with increasing confidence and competence but also embeds a love for life long participation. We have a broad range of sports on our curriculum from gymnastics and dance to athletics and rounders and even rink hockey. We employ a sports coach to deliver PE and support our class teachers. All our Key Stage 2 children have the opportunity to attended our local sports centre and take part in badminton lessons delivered by Martin Drabble who is the Bradfield Junior Badminton Club Coach. Its our aim that by the end of the school year every child in school will have had the chance to represent Loxley Primary School at a sporting competition or festival. We encourage children to take part in an active lunch and break time with the help of our sports leaders. Each year our sports coach undertakes a task of checking our pupils attitude towards PE and sport this might be done by an informal chat, questionnaire or game within their lessons. The staff from LASC meet pupils outside school, at the appropriate time for their class to leave and then escort them up to the Horsa Hut. LASC provide playcare sessions from the end of the school day to 6pm each school day in a caring environment where children are free to play and relax after school with a highly qualified and experienced team of playworkers. Activities vary each day with children always having a choice of a range of activities such as arts and crafts, multi sports, bike/scooter riding, playground games, imaginary games, role play and quiet reading. Since graduating with a doctorate in genetics and following a couple of scientific jobs he found a position as a graduate trainee chartered accountant in an accounting practice based in Rotherham and Doncaster. In recent years, this has provided extensive experience of academy schools as an external auditor producing budget forecasts, statutory accounts and providing technical accounting support for primary and secondary academy schools as well as multi-academy trusts. He is hopeful this experience can assist Loxley Primary School following its conversion into an academy. After 13 years in the same accounting practice where he trained, he has been at a Sheffield- based practice for the last 4 years. Having moved to Loxley around 16 years ago, he has had an association with Loxley Primary School for 13 of those years, having first had his two children, Ewan and Amber, progress through school followed by serving as a governor since 2018. Ewan now attends Forge Valley (in year 12) whilst Amber is at Bradfield School (in year 10). Several years ago, he was treasurer of the Loxley School Fundraising Association (LSFA) from when it was re-formed for around 5 years. He has now passed this role on and takes great pleasure in seeing the successful events, fundraising and support provided to the school by the great team now running the LSFA. Outside of work, he lives with his wife, Joanne, and his two children. He can often be seen watching rugby at Dronfield or hockey at Abbeydale where his children play as well as playing in Stannington Brass Band (on cornet) and helping out as an assistant leader at 150th Wadsley scouts. She is an Early Years teacher and assistant SENco at Shooters Grove Primary School, with previous experience of owning and running a small, local, family business. This provides her with an insight into the management of finances and staff, as well as having an understanding of the curriculum and education system. He was appointed as a Local Authority governor prior to the Academy conversion. He also works full time for a private company and has lived locally in Sheffield for over 25 years. John is very passionate about children getting the best opportunities in education. He believes Sheffield is a great place to bring up children and, like all the governors, wants the children at Loxley to be in a happy and enriching environment. To achieve this, he believes in all the governors working closely with the Head and staff at Loxley to ensure the school is the best it can be. She has a child in KS2. Charlotte has worked at the School of Health and Related Research, University of Sheffield since 2005. Her current role is Academic Programmes Manager and involves curriculum development; quality assurance and enhancement; programme review and progression monitoring. She initially applied to be on the Governing Body as she felt her skills acquired working in the higher education sector were transferable and could be applied to a primary school setting. When your child starts school, we will provide you with a unique registration code, along with instructions on how to register. We believe children learning RE allows for provoking challenging questions about human life, beliefs, communities and ideas. In RE pupils learn from religions and world views about different ways of life in local, national and global contexts. They discover, explore and consider many different answers to questions about human identity, meaning and value. By the end of Year 6 we expect children to leave Loxley to respond thoughtfully to a range of beliefs and teachings.
